Twinstar
This entire enterprise is a manifestation of my reaction to this current reality. It is a cry for change, for a material and visceral ripple in my daily landscape. What is the purpose of looking toward the future, or being informed by the past? Why create alternate realities, other narratives? The purpose is muddled without the context from which we derive constitution.
There is no need to force an understanding of what Twinstar is or isn’t, why it’s linked to the cosmos, the cosmogram, ring shout, the future, the stars, from then, stereo sound or what ever for the purpose of packaging a product. There is no need to fabricate or contort or deep read this name in a posthumous anachronistic manner.
The source of meaning is an internal tectonic movement, a chaotic, abrasive, and angry force. This fundamentally is fueled by my reaction to this reality and the consequences of its history. Everything that I do and work toward is grounded in this guttural reaction, this unwavering sensation.
This is about subverting the accepted schools of thought, about decolonizing my mind, about accepting imagination as power. Every thought or understanding that we accept and believe as true becomes true if it is accepted as such. The pillars of our society, our understanding of life and afterlife, who we are; these notions are an amalgamations of ideas that have become real as we treat them as such.
Only then, after we’ve truly understood that our reality and our future can be imagined, can we walk the path of liberation. Twinstar is about this internal reckoning, it’s about an imagined future, it’s about personal revolution, the power of the mind, and our agency in this long walk to freedom.
This idea of internal liberation is the true form of Afro Futurism. It is the birth of Sixth Sense, which is the reaction to our current reality of Spiritual Negligence. We were forcefully separated from our traditions of our ancestral lineage, but through the words of our elders, written works, and imagination, can we bridge that gap and connect with our ancestors in a world we build for ourselves.
Fabrication, the act of building, manifesting, manipulating, and instilling life, character and individuality into objects are only complemented by the nature through which it is used. Air compression, the reproduction of sound through our speakers, is the medium through which our vessels enable our communication with the future.
Our ability to not only connect with but live with sonic histories is a sacred practice, reaching far beyond the boundaries of speaker technology. Our pursuit of excellence in this craft, of honing in on our portal to the past, is to perfect the portal to our ancestors, to feed our sixth sense of our spirit. My goal is to feed our spirit.
Constellation views
Twinstar takes its name from Sun Ra’s “Twin Stars of Thence,” and carries his genius with it. The name also points to Gemini, the twin star constellation; to the two channels of stereo sound; and to one of our founders, who is a twin.
Here, the Gemini constellation converges at its midpoint, rotated as different views of the same idea.
